SMC Dual Catch Can Installation Instructions

You will need to purchase:

-          SMC Dual Catch can kit and supplied bracket

-          Self-tapping screws or bolts and lock  nuts

-          12’ of 3/8” heater hose or fuel line hose

-          2 worm gear type fasteners for 3/8” hose connections

Valve Cover Can:

1.       Locate an area on the driver side of the engine bay to mount the dual catch cans either using the supplied bracket or using your own method.  There are many intake options, so this is up to you.  If using an open tubular intake style that removes the black engine cover completely, you have a lot of space in front of the wheel well.  If using an enclosed stock like intake, you will have to use a location inside the box if there is room or under the tube or along the wheel well using the supplied bracket.     

2.       You’re basically just putting a filter (catch can) in line with the factory setup.  The factory setup goes from both valve covers to a tee and then connects to the air intake tube so it is pulling air from the valve covers.  This air contains harmful contaminants which should be filtered for your motor to operate at peak performance levels and keep oil out of the intake, throttle body, supercharger, and inevitably into the cylinders. 

Locate the black plastic line that comes off of the passenger front valve cover and the driver side rear valve cover and follow them to the front driver’s side corner of the supercharger.  They tee together and there is a ribbed section that connects to the air intake tube.   Using a razor, cut lengthways up the middle of what looks like tape.  This will allow you to peel this off and remove the ribbed section of the tee while leaving the sides that connect to the valve covers untouched and in place.  Connect one end to the exposed side of the tee and route over to the can and cut the hose with enough slack that it isn’t too tight.  Slide that end and connect that end to the TOP (inlet) of the can.  Slide the left over hose and connect that to the SIDE (outlet) of the same can and then route that over to the intake tube.  Make sure there is enough hose that it isn’t too tight and cut that section and connect it to the intake tube.  This completes the routing of the first can.

3.        The other catch can is to go in line with the ribbed tube directly under the front of the supercharger that pulls from the valley (between the front of the two cylinder heads) and is drawn directly into the side of the supercharger snout.  This also draws air out of the crankcase and relieves pressure into the motor.  This air also contains harmful contaminates that will coat your supercharger internals like the intercooler inside and reduce performance and heat transfer and can eventually lead to worse performance. 

Locate the black ribbed plastic line that comes from the valley and connects directly to the passenger side of the snout.  It has clips on both sides and can just be removed and discarded.  Using the 3/8” hose slide a worm gear on and connect one end to the metal tube coming from the valley of the motor and route over to the other can and cut the hose with enough slack that it isn’t too tight.  Slide that end and connect that end to the TOP (inlet) of the can.  Slide the left over hose to the SIDE (outlet) of the same can and then route that over to the passenger side supercharger snout.  Make sure there is enough hose that it isn’t too tight and cut that section and slide the worm gear on it and connect it to the snout.  This completes the routing of the second can.

 

Double check all connections and worm gears.
