The 2016 and 2017 Cadillac CTS-V are the third generation of the model that launched the Cadillac V-Series a decade ago. With this new model Cadillac introduced a new supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine that is SAE certified to produce 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2 L V8 is backed by Cadillac’s paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission featuring launch control and Performance Algorithm Shifting.

The 2016-2017 CTS-V was designed and developed to be able to participate in track driving without making any modifications, as virtually everything required was already engineered into the car.

These include a Brembo high-performance brake system ready track days straight from the showroom floor, third-generation Magnetic Ride Control that delivers a 40-percent faster damping response, a driver-selectable track mode which adjust a number of electronic variables, and sticky 19-inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. From the factory, the CTS-V can corner at nearly 1.0 g.

The power behind the new CTS-V’s capability is an all-new, more powerful 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine. The engine and heads are all aluminum, with a bore of 4.06” and a stroke of 3.62”, which helps allow for a maximum engine speed of 6600 rpm.

The supercharger’s rotors are smaller in diameter than previous versions, allowing for a quicker spin-up and a higher max rpm. A more direct supercharger discharge creates less turbulence, reducing heat and speeding airflow into the engine. To handle the increase in boost stronger Rotocast A356T6 aluminum cylinder heads are installed with lightweight titanium intake valves.
